Overview:
DaimlerChrysler AG with the assistance of JDM Systems Consultants created a Data Warehouse for combining procurement data throughout their global enterprise. In order to leverage economies of scale and volume buying power, DaimlerChrysler wished to quickly exploit the results of the merger of Daimler and Chrysler. Recognizing that merger of operational systems would be a long term project, JDM Systems Consultants was engaged to build a data warehouse to merge data from these systems. Over the course of time, the data warehouse evolved into a full blown business intelligence system.
Solution:
JDM Systems Consultants built the first web enabled enterprise application at DaimlerChrysler, which was launched as the Global Procurement & Supply Information System (GPSIS). From a set of fully cleansed and automated feeds from dozens of source systems, to a highly performant thin-client web front end, JDM Systems Consultants built a warehouse to consolidate data, and a full featured set of business intelligence applications to analyze and expand on the consolidated data.
The Data Warehouse Institute (TDWI) recognized in 2007 the value of the GPSIS system, and awarded their prestigious Best Practices Award in the Enterprise Business Intelligence (EBI) category.
Business Result:
Real and substantial cost savings were available soon after launch. Value of Business information on a global basis for suppliers provided crucial bargaining leverage. The system also rapidly deployed Supplier Scorecards and TCO applications to further optimize purchasing. A key indicator of the success and value of the system was the decision of both companies (Chrysler and Daimler) to continue separate use of the systems after their split.
